Facebook security check on ad creation

Sometimes Facebook pauses ad creation on a personal Facebook account with a security check. When that happens, publishing an ad from upload.ad fails with a message like:

Facebook has paused ad creation on your Facebook account for a security check.

The underlying Facebook error says "We think someone may have tried to access your account without permission. For your protection, you won't be able to create or modify ads until you authenticate your account in Ads Manager."

This is a Facebook account protection, not an upload.ad restriction. Reading your ads, reports, comments and leads keeps working, and your existing ads continue to run. Only creating and editing ads is paused until you confirm your identity with Facebook.

Why it happens

Facebook flags accounts when ad activity looks unusual to its systems, for example a burst of changes, logins from new places, or API activity from an address it has not seen before. The check is invisible: nothing appears in Ads Manager, Account Quality, or your notifications until you trigger the confirmation prompt yourself.

How to clear it

  1. Open a private (incognito) browser window. The prompt often refuses to appear in a normal session, so the private window matters.
  2. Go to business.facebook.com and log in with the Facebook account you connected to upload.ad. A dialog titled Verification needed should appear: "To help keep this account secure, we need you to verify your account before you can proceed."
  3. Click Verify account and complete the steps (it may ask for your password or a two-factor code).
  4. After submitting, Facebook shows "We'll update your verification status shortly." The review is not instant, and your existing connection can keep carrying the unverified status even after it completes.
  5. Once you have verified, disconnect and reconnect Facebook on the upload.ad ad accounts page. The fresh connection picks up your verified status, which is usually what actually clears the block; without the reconnect, publishing can keep failing for hours.
  6. If the reconnect alone does not clear it, remove Upload.ad first under facebook.com/settings?tab=business_tools (Business integrations), then reconnect. Disconnecting inside upload.ad keeps Facebook's side of the authorization alive, so removing it there forces a completely fresh grant with your verified status.

If the dialog does not appear on its own, open adsmanager.facebook.com in the same private window and click Billing and payments; that reliably summons it. Editing any existing ad (renaming it is enough) and publishing the change can also trigger it.

If nothing triggers the prompt

The flag usually expires on its own within a day or two once the unusual activity stops. If it persists and no prompt ever appears, contact us at support@upload.ad and we will help you escalate it with Facebook's support using the error trace from your account.
